Your struggle could be an opportunity for life changing victory.

I know what suffering feels like. I know the pain and discouragement you feel when there’s nothing you can do to fix it. Everything I tried backfired. And there I was again. Emotional. I pleaded with God for change, but I kept looking at other people. I sought the Lord, I listened to lots of Bible teaching, and then my breakthrough came.

Change me first.

I learned that God responds to faith, not emotion. Finally I realized that this problem was part of His plan for me to grow up and grow in my faith. He showed me that even though this situation was nothing I could change, I could change me. He wanted to change me first. I needed to let go of the situation, stop fighting, soften my heart, and ask God to change me in any way He wanted to.

Breakthrough came when I changed my mindset.

I prayed “Change me first Lord. Even though I see nothing changing yet, I know You are working, and You are changing me. I TRUST IN YOU.” I focused on His truth, and believed that because I loved and feared the Lord, He had already changed me. I believed that I was getting better and better everyday. He began to show me great victory in the “battlefield” of my mind. I didn’t feel chained to my emotions anymore. They were definitely still there, but I didn’t feel like they controlled me.

My change started in the oddest of places…

In my laundry room. By His grace, I transformed my morning routine. I placed a priority on spending time with Him in the morning before I did anything else. Now I wake up early, go straight to the laundry room, listen to podcasts by my favorite Bible teachers, do laundry, and drink my coffee.

But it didn’t stop there…

The Lord continued to nudge me to turn my laundry room into my prayer closet. I didn’t want to at first. I didn’t want anyone to see my thoughts. But someone encouraged me and somehow it didn’t matter what others thought anymore. I put up bulletin boards and pictures. I made it my very own space. Now it’s my favorite room in the house. I go there to get encouraged, or to control myself when I feel my emotions starting to take over. Now here I am sitting on a step stool, using my deep freeze as the working surface to write this post. This change helped me rise above. I didn’t realize that it would help me in so many areas in my life.

Are you struggling with something?

God could be calling you to rise above your trouble. Now is the time to grow your faith and trust your heavenly Father to help you find your way out. God loves you so much, He will never abandon you. There is a way to rise above it! He wants your life to be full of peace and joy.

Here are 3 things that helped me.

  1. BIBLE MESSAGE: How difficult situations can be a perfecting influence in my life – Principle of Receiving message by Bill Ewing
  2. PODCASTS: Joyce Meyer Podcasts (subscribe in Podcast app on iPhone / iPads)
  3. BIBLE VERSE: Lay claim to this bible verse. Think on it. Believe it. 2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given use a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
